Read Aloud!
Premise:
Reading is a life long problem solving activity. Reading involves
interpreting what written symbols mean. It is not simply being
able to make the sounds the words or symbols represent, it
is actually about making sense of or comprehending what those
words or symbols collectively mean. Finding meaning in written
words does not have to be a laborious activity. Reading is
something everyone can do and enjoy, whether it's done alone
or with a friend.
Purpose:
This Read Aloud Project is an open invitation to literate
adults to join Eduwatch in spreading a love of reading among
young children at pre-identified schools by reading out loud
to them. We hope to present children proper models of the
English language and to foster an appreciation of the rhythm
and flow of the English language in them. Most of all, we
hope to serve as a channel through which children are led
to develop a positive attitude toward reading and are encouraged
to become life long readers.
Benefits:
By participating, you will acquire valuable knowledge and
proven strategies for helping children learn through active
listening. You will gain the satisfaction of giving back to
the community by serving as a role model for both children
and adults alike. Furthermore, your presence in these schools
and classrooms is an action statement that you care and it
will boost the morale of those who do the work of teaching
children everyday.
