Meet A Nigerian Author
The Meet A Nigerian Author Project is an effort to promote literacy among Nigerians and to create cultural awareness and mutually beneficial exchanges between Nigerians and other world citizens. This project features a Nigerian author on the Eduwatch website (http://www.eduwatch.org) periodically. It provides another forum wherein information about the literary works of people of Nigerian descent can be found.
Eduwatch, a nonprofit education organization in Gaithersburg, Maryland is inviting Nigerian authors to submit a listing of their published children's books and other books that reflect Nigerian culture as part of its effort to promote literacy among Nigerians and to create cultural awareness and mutually beneficial exchanges between Nigerians and other world citizens.
Authors are encouraged to submit a single copy of any book(s) they wish to have recommended to readers on our website - http://www.eduwatch.org. Books that focus entirely on politics or religion are not eligible for submission and will not be accepted.
Authors should include a review of their literary work, a brief autobiographical sketch, not to exceed 150 words, their contact information, and where their books may be purchased along with their entry. Once the information submitted has been reviewed, one author will be featured periodically on our website for the purpose of drawing attention to his/her literary works.
Books submitted will not be returned. Authors whose books do not meet our reviewer's standards will be informed in writing.

Nigeria Reads
The Nigeria Reads Project is aimed at promoting literacy among Nigerians by involving the community at large in building bridges to literacy for elementary school age children attending needy schools in Nigeria. This project engages the congregation at various places of worship as well as members of social and civic clubs in practical hands-on activities such as providing forums for speakers from Eduwatch, book collection drives, book exchanges and fund-raising projects to support shipment of much-needed books to needy Nigerian elementary schools. Community groups have an opportunity to create a presence for books and literacy.
Eduwatch Nigeria Reads Project … Eradicate Illiteracy in Nigeria!
Premise:
In order to promote and ensure literacy, efforts should permeate all sectors of society. Eduwatch duly recognizes that places of worship and other natural social gatherings are central to the education of a people. Discussions about literacy must not be confined to classrooms and office buildings alone but must be alive within other settings where people naturally congregate.
Purpose:
An essential part of Eduwatch work in supporting Nigerian children is advocacy. We work to ensure that the needs of our children are heard by sending speakers into various communities for the purpose of providing information about our efforts, inviting community leaders to join our efforts and collaborating with other groups to strengthen their own pre-existing efforts to promote literacy among Nigerians. The Nigeria Reads Project is an invitation to religious, civic and social groups to join hands with Eduwatch in various hands-on activities, such as book collection drives and book exchanges, aimed at promoting literacy among Nigerians
Benefits:
By participating, you will gain a greater awareness of the impact of illiteracy and semi-illiteracy on Nigerians and the impact on the life of Nigeria as a nation. You will engage in practical communal ways toward opening the door to literacy to others. You will also gain the satisfaction of giving back to the community by improving the lives of those less fortunate than you are.

Read Aloud
The Read Aloud Project is an opportunity for literate adults in the community to join Eduwatch in spreading a love of reading among young children by reading out loud to them. It seeks to present children proper models for the English language; to help foster an appreciation of the rhythm and flow of the English language; and most of all, to serve as a channel through which children are led to develop a positive attitude toward reading and are encouraged to become life long readers.
Premise:
Reading is a life long problem solving activity. Reading involves interpreting what written symbols mean. It is not simply being able to make the sounds the words or symbols represent, it is actually about making sense of or comprehending what those words or symbols collectively mean. Finding meaning in written words does not have to be a laborious activity. Reading is something everyone can do and enjoy, whether it's done alone or with a friend.
Purpose:
This Read Aloud Project is an open invitation to literate adults to join Eduwatch in spreading a love of reading among young children at pre-identified schools by reading out loud to them. We hope to present children proper models of the English language and to foster an appreciation of the rhythm and flow of the English language in them. Most of all, we hope to serve as a channel through which children are led to develop a positive attitude toward reading and are encouraged to become life long readers.
Benefits:
By participating, you will acquire valuable knowledge and proven strategies for helping children learn through active listening. You will gain the satisfaction of giving back to the community by serving as a role model for both children and adults alike. Furthermore, your presence in these schools and classrooms is an action statement that you care and it will boost the morale of those who do the work of teaching children everyday.
