Books for Schools
This program provides free and low cost books and educational materials to schools in Nigeria through partnerships with other organizations. We encourage schools and other recipients to be selective in their requests for books and materials. All of our books and educational materials attract a recovery fee which covers the cost of securing and processing the materials.
Guidelines for Books for Schools Program
In order to participate in the books for schools program partner schools:
- Must indicate an interest in receiving books or other instructional materials from Eduwatch.
- Must have identified the financial resources to cover the recovery fee and shipping cost.
- May not sell any of the books or educational materials received.
- Must agree to maintain and catalogue books and other media provided by Eduwatch as part of the school library collection and not the personal property of any individual(s).
- Must be willing to provide Eduwatch staff access to the materials upon request.
- Must be able to periodically re-evaluate the needs of the school in terms of the types and usefulness of books and media it receives from Eduwatch.
- Must be willing to provide students and staff of the school continued access to the books and other media.

Adopt-A-School
This program offers members of the community at large, as well as public and private entities an opportunity to select partner schools to support through joint projects and activities on a long-term basis. Suggested activities include, but should not be limited to, providing field trips, speakers, mentoring at-risk students, providing free health care, providing free transportation for students, and involvement in community based projects that extend beyond the school grounds. The nature of the projects is limited only by the creativity of the school and the organization which adopts it.
Guidelines for Adopt-A-School Program
In order to participate in the Adopt A School Program, partner schools must:
- Express an interest in the program.
- Agree to work cooperatively with the organization/individual(s) that wish to adopt it.
- Keep Eduwatch informed of planned activities between the school and the supporting organization(s)/individual(s).
- Be aware and tolerant of the fact that communication will sometimes be delayed due to circumstances that cannot be controlled.
- Keep all requests/suggested activities within the realm of those that will benefit the school and its students.
- Agree to seek to understand the culture and to respect the rights and privacy of all parties involved.
- Recognize that Eduwatch and the supporting organization(s)/individual(s) may choose to terminate this relationship at its/their discretion.
Student Sponsorship
The Student Sponsorship program is a need-based education grant offered to Nigerian students currently enrolled in partner schools based in Nigeria. The grant is in the amount of $100.00 (one hundred US dollars) annually. The duration of the grant is at the discretion of the participating sponsor and is not negotiable. The grant is paid directly to the bursar or the accountant of the school of the beneficiary's school. Although the grant money does not have to be repaid, it will be withdrawn immediately in the event that a student is withdrawn from school, except in the event of verifiable illness.
Eduwatch Student Sponsorship Guidelines
Eduwatch wholeheartedly supports the free flow of communication between the donors and grant recipients. However, in order to maintain mutual respect between all parties, it is expected that all parties will adhere to the following guidelines. It is the responsibility of all participants to help maintain the integrity and dignity of the program and fellow participants.
Benefactors
A benefactor may at his/her discretion decide to communicate with the recipient of his/her grant monies at any time and as frequently as desired. We advise that the communication be limited to educational discussions that will serve to heighten an awareness of, and respect for the cultures of both parties. All communication should be addressed to the student in care of the principal of the school unless a relationship has developed between the student's parents and the donor. There should be no communication with a student without knowledge of the school authorities. We strongly discourage the exchange of money or any other gifts between the donors and grant recipient outside of those items forwarded through Eduwatch.
Beneficiaries and Families
Eduwatch expects the beneficiaries of sponsorship grants and their parents/guardians to write a thank you letter to their sponsor in care of the organization. The principal of the participating school is expected to forward these letters to Eduwatch at no cost to the students or their parents/guardians. Benefactors should initiate continued communication with their beneficiaries if desired. A benefactor should not feel obligated to communicate with his/ her beneficiary. We respect the right of a beneficiary to remain anonymous. Beneficiaries may not solicit for gifts or favors of any kind from their benefactors.
Note: School staff, their children, and their relatives are not eligible to participate in the student sponsorship program.
Participating schools agree to:
- Use grant funds only as stipulated by Eduwatch.
- Direct funds in excess of the current year's tuition to that for the next school year.
- Provide Eduwatch with a receipt for all monies received on behalf of students upon receipt of such monies.
- Furnish detailed biannual financial statements to Eduwatch- one at the end of December and the other at the beginning of June each year in which funds are received.
- Provide the guardians/parents of beneficiaries with a receipt stating the source of the funds for their personal records.
- Ensure that the guardians/parents of beneficiaries are aware of the terms of the agreement and of their rights and responsibilities within the contract.
- Ensure that sponsorship contracts are duly signed and returned by all necessary parties to arrive at Eduwatch headquarters within a month of the school's receipt of the documents.
- Update Eduwatch on any changes to the enrollment status of all beneficiaries.
- Promptly provide required checklist items and other necessary documents that will assist in facilitating provision of grants for students.
