Oak Chapel United Methodist Church Takes Its Mission to Nigeria

Oak Chapel United Methodist Church is supporting Eduwatch effort by sponsoring several activities to benefit needy Nigerian elementary schools. The activities include a school supplies collection drive by the church's World Missions Committee and an education grant for a needy student at an Eduwatch partner school in Jos, Nigeria.

Mrs. Peggy Vert, a member of the World Missions Committee spearheaded the school supplies drive. Although Mrs. Vert is a retired veteran teacher, she teaches bible study, sings in the choir, teaches piano lessons and engages in several extra-curricular activities.

Oak Chapel United Methodist Church is a family oriented church with a diverse congregation that represents twelve countries. It is located in the Layhill community in Montgomery County, Maryland in the United States of America. Oak Chapel UMC currently comprises about 150 families and has a school that enrolls pre-kindergarten through eighth grade students. The church is a part of the historic registry in Montgomery County. It celebrated its centennial in 1986. Bill Boyer is the minister.
